FAQ’s

What sort of fish will I catch?
Freshwater rainbow trout, most are approx. 350g (plate size), but there are a few trophy fish which tip the scales over a kilo.

Can I hire a fishing rod?
Yes, we hire fishing rods for $3, including all the tackle you need.

Can I bring my own rod?
Yes. The best ones to use are light-action rods, the type usually used for wild trout, whiting or bream. Bring some small short shank hooks (size 6 or 8), a couple of floats and some very small sinkers.

What if I’ve never fished before?
Our friendly fishing guides will teach you everything you need to know. They will even take the fish off your hook, so that you don’t have to touch it.

Can I throw the fish back?
Catch and release sounds good in theory, but too many fish do not recover from being caught. Therefore you must keep and pay for the fish you catch. We make the lake fishing more difficult so you get more fishing time for your dollar (on average, it will take you 20 minutes to catch a trout from the lake and two minutes to catch one in the Rainforest Pool). Head to the lake first for a challenge, then later to the Rainforest Pool for the easy fishing.

What can I do with my catch?
• You are welcome to take your fish home for a tasty meal (marinated by our chef or plain), or store in the freezer for up to three months.
• The chef can prepare your fish in foil, with a choice of three tasty home made marinades, to cook on our sheltered barbecues.
• Alternatively, have your catch baked whole by our chef (with your choice of three flavours) or boneless fillets coated in a light and crispy lemon myrtle flavoured batter. Both may be served with crunchy hot chips and fresh garden salad.

Do you serve food other than trout?
Yes, there are plenty of other options to choose from the menu, including red meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Check our daily specials board as well as the cake fridge which always houses a tempting array of home made treats. Enjoy a latte or a glass of local wine with your meal – who cares about fishing?

Can I eat the plants when I walk the Bush Tucker Trail?
No, you must not eat any flowers, fruit or leaves when walking the Bush Tucker Trail. Although our bush tucker crops taste wonderful and have high nutritional qualities, some of them are poisonous at certain times of the year. Others are poisonous all year round and must be cooked before they are safe to eat. The best way to try some bush tucker is in the Farmhouse Cafe where you can enjoy lunch or take home some bush tucker products.
